The Vidler Road landfill in Cape Naturaliste is the wrong place for a dump and the wrong future for our iconic region.

Why this matters:

  • Contamination already exists. Heavy metals, PFAS and landfill-leachate impacts have been identified in groundwater.
  • Groundwater flows beyond the landfill. Towards Yallingup, Smiths Beach and the Cape Naturaliste coast, raising concerns for the wider environment.

Dear CEO, Mayor and Councillors

The Capes region is internationally recognised for its outstanding environmental, cultural and tourism values and is one of Western Australia's most important natural landscapes.

I am strongly opposed to plans that will turn a site near Yallingup into a regional waste hub for Busselton and beyond. This is the wrong place for a regional waste dump and the wrong future for the iconic Yallingup and Capes region.

I am calling for the City, Mayor, and Elected members to halt the regional waste hub expansion; and instead develop a sustainable waste management strategy.

This must be done in consultation with the community and must protect Yallingup and the Capes region from being turned into a permanent rubbish dump for millions of tonnes of waste.
